Mexican Meat Loaf

Ground beef combined with whole milk, eggs, dry bread crumbs, chopped white onion, sea salt, fresh ground black pepper and chili powder. Meatloaf baked until ground beef is cooked through and browned on the outside. Individual servings are topped with warm Picante sauce.

Ingredients -

3/4 cup Whole Milk
2 Large Eggs, beaten
1/2 cup Dry Bread Crumbs
1/4 cup White Onion, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt
1/2 teaspoon Fresh Ground Black Pepper
1/2 teaspoon Chili Powder
1-1/2 pounds Lean Ground Beef
1 16 ounces) jar Picante Sauce

 
Preparation:

1. In a large bowl, combine the milk, eggs, bread crumbs, onion, salt, pepper and chili powder.

2. Mix in the beef and toss thoroughly.

3. Pat the mixture into a greased 8-in. x 4-in. x 2-in. loaf pan.

4. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until juices run clear.

5. Drain.

6. Top with warm picante sauce.

Naturally Bright Red
Ground beef is naturally bright red in color due to its exposure to oxygen. When formed and packaged the exterior remains red while the interior will turn brownish red without the oxygen exposure.

Labeling
Unless otherwise indicated, ground beef has a 23-30% fat content, ground chuck contains 16-22% fat, ground round is 10-15% fat, ground round is 10-15% fat and ground sirloin 6-10%.  Lean ground beef will often be labeled as 95% lean or having a 5% fat content.
